Vote Explanation for H.R. 3716 — Ensuring Removal of Terminated Providers from Medicaid and CHIP Act
This week I voted for H.R. 3716, the Ensuring Removal of Terminated Providers from Medicaid and CHIP Act, which unanimously passed the House. This legislation clarifies a requirement of the Affordable Care Act, which requires that State Medicaid programs terminate the participation of any health care providers that have previously been terminated by Medicare or another State Medicaid program. However, this same requirement was not extended to CHIP, the Children’s Health Insurance Program.
This bill first extends the requirement to CHIP and then makes sure that states can comply with this requirement through better reporting, sharing of information, and standardization of documentation. This simple measure to increase cooperation and sharing of information is projected to save $28 million dollars over the next ten years.
