Boxing For Females In Melbourne

As a young female I would have never guessed that Boxing would end up being one of my favourite sports. When I was in primary school two of my favourite sports were gymnastics and netball, at one stage I even dreamed of becoming a professional netballer. Little did I realise at the time that the skills I was developing through these activities would end up assisting me as a young adult when I began my journey as a martial artist. The agility and flexibility that was required as a gymnast, and the speed, co-ordination, and aim that were important skills in netball games, facilitated my development as a Boxer.

Better yet, after training in Boxing Melbourne classes for over a year and a half, and attending classes much more regularly then I had been when learning gymnastics or netball, I have never sustained any injuries that have prevented me from training the following day. On several occasions in my first year of playing netball I had obtained several injuries including fractured wrists and rolled ankles which meant I was unable to participate in classes or games for weeks or months afterwards. Contrary to popular belief you are much less likely to injure yourself while learning martial arts then playing other sports, for example, football or rugby, and this is very consistent with my experience so far.

In addition to sustaining very little injuries during training, you also develop skills and techniques that can be used to defend yourself in threatening situations. Learning self-defence and attending regular classes reduces your chances of being harmed by an attacker. Not only do you have knowledge of how to effective block and evade punches and other strikes, but you are also much more likely to be able to successfully out run someone who may be following you. Hopefully you will never encounter any of these situations in your lifetime. Nevertheless learning the art of Boxing will fill you with confidence about your ability to protect yourself and your loved ones, and this feeling alone makes it a very worthwhile skill to develop.
