Nova Scotia off to a quick start at Canada Games on Saturday, July 29

The women’s basketball, women’s soccer and men’s softball teams had a big opening day while men’s basketball, in a nailbiting loss, and the baseball team both lost to host Manitoba in Day 1 at the 2017 Canada Games in Winnipeg.
The women’s hoops team opened the competitive schedule for the entire Games, defeating Team Yukon 98–14. Lizzy Iseyemi, Dartmouth, led the way with 22 points. The team’s next game is Sunday at 5:30 p.m. (add 2 hours to all times for Atlantic) against Alberta.

The men’s team lost 88–83 to Manitoba, after rallying to retake the lead with two minutes left in the game. Scoring details were not available They play British Columbia Sunday at 3:15.
In men’s softball, Nova Scotia opened with a pair of wins, 6–2 over P.E.I., and 7–2 against Manitoba. Alex Anthony, Shubenacadie, threw a four-hitter with eight strikeouts, against P.E.I., Rowan Sears, Brookfield, was 3–for-3 with 3 RBIs and Noah Hawes, Spry Bay, was 3–for-4 with an RBI. Against Manitoba, Anthony picked up his second win of the day, allowing only one hit over 2 1/3 innings in relief of Randall Bernard. Hawkes went 2–for-4 with 2 RBIs and a homer and Coby Crowell, Brookfield, was 2–for-3 with an RBI and a double. The team’s next game is Sunday at 3 a.m. against Alberta.
The women’s soccer cruised to an 8–1 win over New Brunswick with Beatrice Currie netting a hattrick and Katelynn Fines posting the shutout.
The men’s baseball team lost 11–1 to the host team.
