What is VPN?

VPN-(Virtual Private Network) is a method to give you additional protection when you do anything on internet from email to visiting websites to using a banking app on your smartphone. A VPN will shield or mask your Internet Protocol (IP) address by creating a private path or tunnel through the public internet.

Why people are using VPN?

After long term Internet Ban of atleast 6 Months, now Internet is partially restored by Indian Govt. in Kashmir.

As Internet was restored, but it’s speed is restricted to 2G only. To get better speed many cybernauts and Hackers got a solution - VPN.

Why VPN is Unsafe?

There are two types of VPNs:

• Premium VPNs: These are Premium (means you have to pay for it). These are created by registered tech companies and have resources to secure your data.
• Freemium VPNs: These are Freemium (means these are free to use). These are created by unregistered and most of these are created and modified by Hackers. They didn’t have better resources to secure your data.

The VPNs, the people are using in Jammu and Kashmir or at any other place to get the good internet speed, are mostly modified and hacked VPNs ( means these are controlled and modified by hackers and cybernauts). These VPNs get access to your phones and monitor every activity of your phone and records activities you perform, passwords, emails, photos, PIN, Documents, etc.

Hackers and local companies misuse this data and sometimes exposes this data. This could lead to the, stealing of money from your wallets and bank accounts, hacking of social media accounts.

Advise!

Beware while using the VPN. My advise to you as a CS Student and Cyber Security Expert is, don’t use these VPNs if your phone contains wallets, bank account details, banking apps, official documents and emails and any other secret information. If you need VPN, use Premium VPNs.
