The French Tech Ecosystem: Funding & M&A Report 2015
At Tech.eu, we’ve been meticulously tracking all funding and M&A deals involving European and Israeli tech companies for more than two years. While keeping track of this data is valuable, we believe that even more value can be provided by analysing all the data we currently have and the bigger trends taking place in the European tech ecosystem.
Today, we’re releasing a new report with a different focus: France’s tech ecosystem.
The report, which is available for purchase here for just £99, takes an in-depth look at the French tech ecosystem through the lens of the funding and M&A markets.
Below are the main take-aways from the report on ‘La French Tech’, with a breakdown of what you can expect to find in the full report. Also follow us on Twitter, where we regularly share interesting tidbits from our research.
Tech.eu has tracked more than 115 funding deals in France in 2015, totalling €960 million, which puts the French tech ecosystem in the billion-euro-club along with the UK, Germany and Israel, thanks to large rounds from the likes of BlaBlaCar and Sigfox and an increased level of investor activity led by firms such as Bpifrance, Alven Capital or Idinvest Partners.
While enterprise SaaS, e-commerce and telecoms/infrastructure were the verticals that attracted most funding euros and deals in 2015, it’s also worth highlighting that France was the only country in Europe were hardware startups made it to the top 3, demonstrating the potential of French tech companies in the space.
In terms of M&A activity, France saw almost 40 deals in 2015 that generated €900 million. Highlights include Showroomprive’s IPO at a €660 million valuation or Dailymotion’s acquisition by Vivendi for €217 million. 34% of the country’s M&A deals in 2015 involved VC-funded companies and France, the US and the UK were the main locations for buyers of French startups.
