I’m on a mission to help mothers simplify their lives with technology

I’m a mother of a 10 year old boy and an 8 year old girl. They are in so many programs I am embarrassed to list them. My husband and I work full-time. I’m sure many of you can relate when I say, we are crazy busy. Overall, I believe that technology is adding to the problem, but given it’s our new reality I am obsessed with figuring out how technology can help make certain aspects of my life easier. Recently, I was sharing with a friend how technology can help make her life easier when I realized that:

  1. I really like helping other people make their lives easier.
  2. As a computer programmer, I have a unique opportunity to show non-technical people how easy technology can be.

So, here I go. My first post and attempt to help other mothers.

I’m going to start with one of my favourite apps. Google Photos.

Hold on.

In order to use Google Photos, you need a gmail account, so let’s start with that :) You need a gmail account for at least two programs that I’ll be speaking about at some point so this is good.

Before I explain how to get a gmail account, let me start by saying for those of you out there who say you already have an email that you’re using and you don’t want to switch, you have a few options:

  1. You can just use the email for Google Photos (won’t work when I share Google Inbox).
  2. You can forward email from gmail to another email.
  3. You can forward email from your other email to gmail.

If you’d like help on how to do 2 or 3, you can email me about the gmail account that I’m about to create! I’ll provide the address at the end. Getting a gmail account is pretty simple. Here’s a video of me doing it:

That’s it! Next post, I’ll show Google Photos.

Please email me if you need instructions on forwarding your email or if you have any other questions technologyformoms@gmail.com.
