Enterprise Architecture

Enterprise Architecture includes the following components: mission, stakeholders and customers, processes, applications and infrastructure, networks, and data.

EA facilitates improvement of processes : -

  • Discovering business processes that require change
  • Efficiently and continuously managing change via clearly defined documentation
  • Developing and implementing enterprise-wide procedures
  • Encouraging effective enterprise-wide communication, which, in theory leads to better decisions.

DEFINING THE EA ROLE WITHIN AN ORGANISATION

An Enterprise Architecture role within an organisation is cross-disciplinary, requiring integration of diverse skills, methods and tools, within and beyond the technology community. Holistic EA is pragmatically developed through the ongoing collaboration between business role players, the IT executive team, and the EA team.

In order to understand EA and our solution offering, it is important to comprehend how the knowledge frameworks, the EA Capability, and the Business, Information, Data, Application and Technology (BIDAT) architectures are systemically inter-related.

Enterprise architecture

Enterprise architecture has grown from being just a set of small pilots to being a fully sponsored and supported initiative within enterprises. With the growing demands to reduce costs, increase agility, and standardize IT environments, there has been a surge of enterprise architecture activity. The term “enterprise architecture” can have many different meanings, and we often find that there are only particular aspects examined. To compound the issue, information technology professionals scope enterprise architecture differently. Some IT professionals view enterprise architecture as a more structured activity with many moving parts such as architecture strategy, architecture patterns, principles, architecture design, business architecture, and IT governance.

The bottom line: more cost, less value. These problems, first recognized 29 years ago, have today reached a crisis point. The cost and complexity of IT systems have exponentially increased, while the chances of deriving real value from those systems have dramatically decreased.
