Google Professional Cloud Security Engineer — Beta exam review
I attended the GCP’s new certification “Professional cloud security engineer” in Beta review last month and awaiting results as of now. Going by the rigor of the exam, i think it is one of the most toughest exams covering a lot of subjects from security, privacy and compliance perspective covering the google cloud platform itself. It is very relevant and technical exam which requires almost similar preparation as architect exam. Most of the questions were scenario based and with a few direct ones and enjoyed reading all questions which tested my mind many times. Only a very few of them were incorrectly worded or confusing but i can commend that most of them (almost 99%) were written well. I have been working on GCP since six months and have some experience in AWS and Azure platforms as well, but since this security certification was first one from GCP and had no idea about it, i thought to cover some other stuff apart from the resources recommended by google.
- Security in google cloud platform (coursera specialization): This video course was nice starter and alongwith the qwiklabs were good to get a hands on the GCP platform and security services. Although i felt it was dry and going through it i couldn’t remember everything after few days. Therefore, doing a hands on is a must and recommend you to complete all the labs in the coursera specialization.
- Google security whitepapers: This you can google and download all security related whitepapers, related to GCP infrastructure, Encryption at rest and transit, DLP, Compliance etc. I went through all of those whitepapers and understood a breadth of information published there.
- Linux Academy course: GCP cloud security essentials: This course supplemented information which was really helpful me to understand certain concepts such as IAM, encryption concepts such as DEK, KEK, KMS etc. Overall this course seems to add a lot of value when preparing for the exam. Must to do it as not much resources available for this new cert.
- If you have time, google codelabs would be really nice, Just take a 300 credit worth free signup on GCP and start practicing skills from code labs which is tutorial based challenges.
- Qwiklabs: I signed up to do “security essentials” quest in Qwiklabs. I didn’t buy any credits there and did some basic free quests and after completing them got approx 25 free credits to complete the ones from security quest which i was not very comfortable with.
- GCP Next Videos: I went to youtube and searched for keywords “google cloud security” and captured some relevant ones from there to study, most of these videos were from Google Next cloud conferences and really nice to understand the concepts like best IAM practices, VPC concepts from amazing speakers. There are many more things which might not come in exam but good to know from GCP security perspective such as BeyondCorp.
