Bourbon cork
wine stopper
Wine can be a tricky thing.
Delicious and nutritious of course — but drinking a bottle by yourself is best left to the 20-somethings that haven’t yet faced the levels of sleep deprivation that accompany parenthood. That means you need to cork that precious liquid for another night of post bed-time routine drinking to numb the pain. Now, there are nearly endless means of preserving your vino out there — from super chintzy to ultra modern high-tech vacuum sealing technology. But let’s face the truth, cheap stoppers are going to fall apart in a week and you don’t really need to vacuum seal the Two-Buck Chuck that you’re just going to kill tomorrow night after bath time runs long and you read 45 minutes worth of Princess stories.
One night I happened to be finishing off a bottle of Buffalo Trace as my wife opened a new bottle of red and I found the answer to a question that I never knew to ask. The humble bourbon cork is the perfect wine stopper.

In retrospect it makes perfect sense. It’s low profile so the bottle will fit in any refrigerator or wine rack you might prefer. It’s made of cork (or some other acceptable replacement) so there’s no chance of it imparting any nasty additional taste to your finest white from the $5 or under table. It even seems to be happy to be keeping alcohol in a vessel again. But the best part is that due to the variations in neck widths in both wine and bourbon bottles you’ll have to sample a variety of bourbons to make sure that you have a stopper for each bottle of wine. #SacrificesWeMustMake right?
So go out there and finish that bottle of Bulleit. Your wine is depending on it.
