Have you ever wondered why do you see an orange or a green dot on your iPhone sometimes? Should you worry about this or is it a good feature? Well, this article is all about clearing your doubt on this topic.

What is the orange dot on my iPhone?

With the introduction of iOS 14, a lot of new features were introduced. These dots are indicators that help you safeguard your privacy. If any app is using the camera or microphone then you will see this indicator on your iPhone.

Orange or Yellow dot iPhone

It is orange but may appear a shade of yellow for some. When your microphone is used you will see an orange or a yellow dot on the top right-hand side of the screen. You must have noticed it most commonly on a phone call or even a video call. There is a chance the app is using the microphone and even recording.

Green dot on iPhone

If your camera (or both camera and microphone) is being used it shows a green dot at the top-right hand side of the notch. Most commonly seen when you open the Camera app or Facetime, almost immediately you will see a small green dot appear on top of the screen.

When you see a green dot, check If you are not sure the app which is in use requires camera access, you should be alarmed.

How to check which application is using your microphone or camera?

  • From the Home screen press the Assistive Touch button and choose Control Center or simply swipe down from the top right-hand side of the iPhone screen.
  • You will be able to see the Control Center.
  • On the top of the Control Center screen, you will be able to see the names of the app using the microphone or camera, or both.
  • It can also tell you which app has recently accessed the camera or microphone, by adding the word “recently” to the name of the application.

How to get rid of orange dot

You cannot disable this option as Apple has made it mandatory. Also, there is no need to disable it knowing everything.

However for people unable to differentiate colors can go to Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size > Differentiate without color.
