A few weeks ago I had a conversation with an engineer that I think will help you understand the concept of edge computing. He gave me a good example from his time in university where he wanted to create robots that could be installed on top of buildings and work as if they were using computers on their own. The robot would interact with people and other robots, but without actually using any kind of power source. This is not a new idea, most robots can still be controlled using a remote control, and this is how humans have been able to do everything we want without having to rely on electricity for our daily life needs. But imagine being able to use your computer or smart devices without needing to buy anything else but what you like, use it like water, or even make it talk to you! Imagine having all your data stored away in some sort of cloud, in order to quickly access your files when you need them without needing to connect via cable, phone, or USB-C.

What Is Edge Computing

Edge computing is similar to the idea of grid computing, where many computers are placed near each other to save money. However, instead of running off the electricity grid, these individual devices can run off the same electricity that we consume today. These systems are called Distributed Systems (or DSI) because there are many individual machines used in a single DSI system. Read More..
