Risk!
Thursday, Sep 6 • 8:00 PM • Revolution Hall
RISK! is a live show and podcast where people tell true stories they never thought they’d dare to share. Founded in 2009 by Kevin Allison of MTV’s legendary sketch comedy show, The State, RISK! has been downloaded tens of millions of times and has featured incredible true stories from Sarah Silverman, Kevin Nealon, Dan Savage, Margaret Cho, Andy Dick, Michael Ian Black, and regular folks from around the world. Slate calls RISK! “jaw-dropping, hilarious and just plain touching.” RISK! is a labor of love, a communal groundswell, and a start-up with one hell of a future in the works. Be a part of it all. Or, as Kevin ends every episode of the podcast saying, “Folks, today’s the day. Take a risk!”

Sam Smith: The Thrill Of It All Tour
Friday, Sep 7 • 8:00 PM • Moda Center
Sam Smith’s sophomore album, The Thrill Of It All, will be released worldwide on November 3rd via Capitol Records. The Thrill Of It All finds Smith once again working alongside close friend and long-time collaborator Jimmy Napes plus Timbaland, Malay, Jason “Poo Bear” Boyd and Stargate. He was named Best New Artist, In The Lonely Hour took Best Pop Vocal Album honors and his single “Stay With Me” on awards for both Record and Song of the Year. Smith has also earned an Oscar, a Golden Globe, three Billboard Music Awards and three BRIT Awards, among others.

Rose City Comic Con
Saturday, Sep 8 • 10:00 AM • Oregon Convention Center
Portland’s annual celebration of all things pop-culture returns for its biggest year yet — yes, even bigger than the previous year, which was also its biggest year yet — featuring appearances from David Tennant, John Barrowman, Evangeline Lilly, Felicia Day, Karl Urban, Val Kilmer (Iceman!!) and a slew of other artists, creators, voice talent, and celebrity guests from the realms of comics, film, gaming, animation, and sci-fi.

Cut Copy
Sunday, Sep 9 • 9:00 PM • Wonder Ballroom
It’s hard to believe that Cut/Copy once only existed as an idea in the Melbourne bedroom of frontman Dan Whitford, who was at the time running a very successful local design studio and immersing himself in club culture by night, both in front of and behind the decks. Whitford’s early blend of samples and newly learned instruments has since evolved into a full-fledged band with guitarist Tim Hoey, drummer Mitchell Scott, and bass player Ben Browning, with each member handling a multitude of instruments. With each album they’ve grown stronger as songwriters, performers, experimenters, and curators.

Foo Fighters: Concrete And Gold Tour
Monday, Sep 10 • 7:30 PM • Moda Center
Ummm…it’s the Foo Fighters. What else can one say?!

Florence and the Machine
Tuesday, Sep 11 • 7:00 PM •Moda Center
There’s a reason why South London musicians Florence Welch and Isabella “The Machine” Summers, a.k.a. Florence and the Machine, have filled stadiums, amphitheaters, and concert halls worldwide to max capacity. Ask any fan and they’ll tell you that their lush, genre-defying indie art rock sounds even better live than on their multi award-winning studio albums. Indeed, their reputation for putting on phenomenal shows has fans eagerly anticipating tour dates and pouncing on tickets as soon as they’re available. Why such devotion? Florence’s energetic, fiery stage presence matches her signature crimson tresses, adding that much more drama to such orchestral gems as “Cosmic Love,” “Dog Days Are Over,” “No Light, No Light,” “Rabbit Heart (Raise it Up)” — just to name a few. What’s more, their artful, literary lyrics, soaring vocals, and theatrical concerts have caused critics to draw comparisons to Kate Bush and Siouxsie and the Banshees. However, despite their old school appeal, their style is fresh enough to attract fans of Adele, Amy Winehouse, and Beyoncé (who also counts herself as a hug Florence fan).

Wednesday, Sep 12 • 9:00 PM • Doug Fir Lounge
