Let me explain here a bit, while, it’s completely ok, to have a touch on iPad, and other devices, Macbook is used vertically, thus using it for longer durations, or even, for instance, smaller durations, will be uncomfortable.

Yes, another reason for it “can be” the sales of the peripherals, while, you might not use an external mouse with Macbook, even a small chunk of the audience can mean be huge, considering the number of MacBooks get sold each year, thus adding the touch screen functionality will eventually hurt the sales of Magic Mouse.
3. Expensive:
There’s a reason it’s the last point because Apple is certainly not the company, that’s concerned with, how expensive the product is, but with adding functionality that users might not even use.
