This is really excellent. Fairly early on I was thinking, “Shit, I’m dyslexic!” because much of what you say about the content being there but not accessible applies to me as well. Mostly this is because I’m in my 60s. Partly it’s because we are all on spectrums of one sort or another. I’m bad with names (though much better with dogs and horses?) and I’m increasingly bad at getting a word — often a word I had just a moment ago. Rather than files, I think of my memory as being like an elevator that often can’t line up with the proper floor. (The latest thing I read about memory suggests this really has to do with prions.)
But your advice is all good. I am reading slower and less every year. Not because I can’t read faster, but because I get much more out of what I read when I read more carefully. One thing you didn’t mention is reading your writing aloud. If you can let it sit for a day or two and then read it aloud you will find so much to improve/correct.
