This would have been great to publish back when the movie “In Time” was in the theaters as that dystopian future had a very Mercantilist feel.

I thought you were going to go back to John Calvin. The typical “Protestant Work Ethic” largely derives from Calvinism.

Our dystopian present is a result of the ideas of David Ricardo. *Spits* We went from a time when the poor were forced to work to a time when there is no work for the poor because there are always cheaper workers (with even fewer rights) far away.

I still think the connection with Calvin would have been better, but this was interesting too.
