The Lost World of Typewriters

Very nice story. One part nostalgia for technology past and one part the loneliness of the small shop owner.

I spent a year cleaning, repairing, and selling typewriters in my youth… I still have a spring hook (the most important tool for typewriter maintenance) which comes in handy more often than you might think. But I’ve been using computers since the late ’80s and don’t even remember when I gave away my trusty Smith-Corona.

I still remember working on Olympias, great machines along with Hermes. If I were you I’d replace the platten if you still can. Eventually that part will be unavailable — if they aren’t already — and that’s the most important thing for keeping your machine working properly.
