How to sleep on a flight

The sound of you looking at me is music stopping / a cassette tape turning over in my sleep / The empty side /

An ant trapped in a fridge / or a fingerprint frosted in plastic / I have never seen water evaporate / does it happen /

I am still young enough to remember the sound of you looking at me on our way back from Mexico / Blanketed like a marathon runner / pointing at my hair all over the place / refusing to kiss my breath / We took no photos but loved it there /

Opening my eyes under a mask I want to confiscate the paper / yank out your earphones / we just scaled a mountain taller than Everest in a corridor of oxygen / the only thing to survive at this altitude under the sea
