Teespring Spotlight: Tracy Reeves

What’s your life story in 3 sentences or less?

Three sentences? ugh! Have you seen that show “This is Us”? I’m Randall, NBC has stolen a LOT of my life experiences and made me a boy :o). I was born in Indianapolis, IN. My dad use to say “selected” not adopted at 3 months old. I grew up in Kentucky. My family found my biological family and invited them to my high school graduation as a surprise (I thought I was getting a car… lol).

I thought, I’ll just stay here until I figure out what I want to do. Unbeknownst to me, this has become so much more!

What were you doing before Teespring, how did you find out about the company?

I was a contract law attorney and before that an attorney for children’s services (tough!). I came to Teespring completely unexpectedly. We suffered the sudden loss of my father several years ago and it made me re-evaluate. I quit my job and took a year off, volunteered, traveled. Then the family started worrying I’d become a beach bum, so I thought I’ll just take a job, any job to stop the worrying. I saw a advertisement for Teespring on Indeed. I thought, I’ll just stay here until I figure out what I want to do. Unbeknownst to me, this has become so much more!

What’s your role? Has it changed/evolved since you first joined the company?

Currently, I’m the Account Manager for Teespring Direct, but I started as a temporary Customer Support agent in July 2015. I worked in Customer Support for six months and last January, our Director, at the time thought I would be a good fit to work with Tony Staehelin on Teespring Direct. In the beginning everything was completely manual — we had a temporary page where folks would request a quote and we’d set up the orders manually. With the roll out of the “buy this” option on the composer in April, my main focus has turned to the white glove service of our corporate clients (Snapchat, Square, Clever, Facebook, eBay, etc.). I laugh when Tony forwards a message and says “I’m adding in Tracy, our top account manager for Direct”… I’m the ONLY account manager for Direct! ;) But we’re growing.

There’s always something new. Clever is looking for a mo-hair embroidered notebook, Snapchat wants a black logo on a black shirt.

What is your favorite part about coming to work each day?

There’s always something new. Clever is looking for a mo-hair embroidered notebook, Snapchat wants a black logo on a black shirt. It’s exciting to source it and make it happen. But probably most important and one of the reasons I’ve stayed are the connections and all the folks I’ve met along the way here at Teespring. So many people have contributed to my growth and understanding of how how we function and thrive.

What is something new you’ve learned recently?
Don’t laugh — Excel. I was never good with it. In the land of “the law,” word and google docs are king! In the land of “the Tony” and Direct it’s a necessity ;).

Funny: Tony gave each Direct team member an emergency poncho for the “shit show” which will probably ensue as we build the Direct business.

Tell us about a funny or heartwarming moment you’ve had at Teespring so far!
There are so many, so I’ll give you one of each.

Heartwarming: we had a customer who did a huge fundraiser for Hodgkins Lymphoma, the ribbon was suppose to be violet and it wasn’t, but the production team worked it out in record time and the shipment arrived for the event… she said I was a good egg.

Funny: Tony gave each Direct team member an emergency poncho for the “shit show” which will probably ensue as we build the Direct business. In July, I had a particularly challenging few weeks with a big corporate client and I wore that poncho around the building and during my 1 on 1 - hopefully the resulting picture has been buried since!

Thanks Tracy :)
