Getting Started With Big Data in 3 Steps
When I started to understand the mechanism of Hadoop MapReduce , Spark etc. there was a information overflow! There was just so much to read, learn from so many places!
So I went through a couple of articles and papers and finally came up with a guide which would help new learners understand basics of the Big Data Domain.
Here is a 3 step checkpoint based approach that helped me gain a good understanding about Big Data technologies:
STEP 1: Lynn Laggit’s Course on Lynda.com
This is the very first thing I went through and it was very useful. It gave me a brief top level understanding of what I am about to do.
So on Lynda.com you will find the course here:
This course will tour you through the core starting with Hadoop MapReduce and then gradually ushering to newer technologies.
STEP 2: Specific Tool Online articles
Mallikarjuna has done a great job at explaining SPARK on his website.
His series further simplifies and demonstrates implementation using projects and examples.
Similarly you can find youtube playlists by Edureka ! and bigdatasimplified.
PySpark Tutorial was extremely useful!
The other playlists too are fairly decent.

Step 3: Cognitive Class
So IBM has its own E-learning platform called as Cognitive Class. It has courses and paths which have exercises and useful videos.
After each course there is a Quiz which tests your understanding of the subject.
Create a Free IBM ID and start learning. At the end of each course you get a certificate. At the end of couple of courses you get a badge.
