Hey! Save the timestamp.

Over the past few years, I’ve noticed a trend of blogs removing timestamps from posts. There are positives and negatives to dropping the timestamp.

Many companies do this strategically with hopes of foolish readers viewing their content as recent and thus, automatically relevant. This could be a benefit if you’re trying to push for short-term newsjacking, but it also has high long-term backfire potential. Since these companies remove timestamps from all posts, readers may perceive their content as recent many years after it’s been published when it may no longer hold relevance.

Save the reader. Save the timestamp.
