Looks like Apple hasn't completely gotten over Skeuomorphism.

Did Apple forget that dashboard widgets still exist?

Let’s go back to 2007. Forbes magazine announced the death of skeuomorphic design. Microsoft introduced the Metro UI with the Windows Phone 7 in 2010. Apple joined the game with the beautiful iOS 7 in 2013 soon followed by Google in 2014 with its material goodness.Today the flat UI design is consistent on all the three ecosystems across all of their products irrespective of the devices they’re running on.

But wait., Does Apple remember that the UI of the dashboard widgets on macOS Sierra is still skeuomorphic? Or did they just let it remain as a tribute to Steve Jobs, one of its earliest proponents?

Current UI of dashboard Widgets on macOS Sierra.

Or maybe they’re planning to remove the Dashboard on the whole and include all the widgets in the notification center, which already has a few of them. Whatever may be the reason for it, it’s strange that Apple ignored such an intricate design detail in their UI.

Still, here is a Redesign concept of a few widgets in flat, non-skeuomorphic UI that I made :

Redesign concept

This concept reimagines a few widgets in flat UI with translucency , the current UI design language of macOS drawing inspiration from iOS 11 apps and watchOS.

Here’s a link to the project on Behance.
