Welcome to day 2 of my 30-day writing challenge. Today, I’m to write about the things that make me happy.

You can catch my first article, where I describe my personality here.

Luckily, happiness is easy for me. I get happy over the simplest things; finally cleaning my room and lying on a freshly laid out bedsheet. Taking in my decluttered space while wishing it remains like this forever.

Hearing a song I’ve forgotten come on the radio or streaming service. This feeling causes a euphoric deja vu. I am instantly catapulted to the first time I heard it, dwelling in its fondness. How I usually rush to find the name of the song just to play it all day even though I know I’d forget it again.

Living in Nigeria does have a way of lowering your happiness level. Here’s one way; the power coming on is a huge mood lifter. Maybe, it’s all because it is a major player in making some other factors here incorporate into improving my mood.

Rainfall when I have plans to go out. Call me antisocial but this gladdens my heart always.

The thrill of personal achievement has turned dark days into bright ones. Remember, I get sad a lot. Not many things are succour in crawling out of that kind of sadness but over and over, the thrill of personal achievement has.

Again, my antisocial quirk shows its ugly head, but it also gives me an arm to diving out of the drained energy that comes with being around people. So, finally coming home to an empty house is a big mood changer.

Seeing a butterfly or rainbow. Unique sightings that make the world seem like a place I want to live in.

Running — not as an exercise but competitive. I wouldn’t come out to say it brings an immediate feeling of happiness, but running is the freest I’ve been and who doesn’t feel happy when they are free?

That ‘Friday feeling’, message notification from the one I love, and getting a window seat on a bus, taxi, or plane

Someone remembering details I had forgotten I told them, gifting people things, and receiving gifts

Watching movies and Listening to music. Taking a journey with a character while slowly immersing yourself in their life long enough that you begin to think you escape your tragic one. Swaying and getting lost in the rhythmic melody of a song. Both are euphoric, exhilarating, and addicting.

Baking/cooking. Food! Hell yeah, I’m trapped in the glorious sweetness.

Hanging out with friends — not completely antisocial you see.

Knowing something no one else does. The urge to win — to be the smartest, most brilliant person in the room? Yeah, this one might be a little self-serving but it makes me happy.
