My first job

Hi everyone , so today i’ve decided to tell you a story about the first job that I ever had. Me and my friends were talking about jobs and careers today so I was feeling inspired.

My first ever job was being a card designer. I got the job through my sister because she worked there as an additional job too. I figured it would be fun and easy because it was only really arts and crafts. But boy did I underestimate how difficult it would be.

I would get given an order every week and I’d have to collect it from the factory it could be anywhere between 500 and 1000 cards that I needed to design and you would get a sample card of what design you had to do and you’d have things like sequins and pom poms and bows to glue on and then you had to package them all up. Some cards would be so easy to do that I could get them complete quickly but others were honestly like they’d been sent from hell. There was nothing worse than trying to use a hot glue gun with bows because I got it on my fingers a lot and it burns like it pulled my skin off before it was excruciatingly painful.

The glue pot.

When they first considered me for the job I had to go in for a glue session and because my sister only ever got given glue pots she let me practice with hers so I walked into this session feeling so confident that I was going to nail it only to get into the room and for it to be a glue gun instead of a glue pot. I have literally no muscles in my fingers so trying to use it properly was so hard because I hadn’t used a glue gun in years and my hand wouldn’t stop shaking but somehow my glue trial was successful and I got the job.

However , there comes a time in our lives when we all have to go through the process of being fired from our jobs. I’d been working there for roughly two months and I’d just started college and rehearsals so I was becoming much more busier and had less time to get the cards done and there was one week where I was really ill but I had my biggest order of cards ever and they swapped me over from the glue gun onto the glue pots which I technically wasn’t supposed to be doing because I hadn’t had a trial session on the pots. I managed to get the cards done but I had been given 6 different design sets and one of the designs was so tricky and with being ill I really did try my best but a couple (literally only a couple) of cards were a bit messy but I figured when I returned them to the factory that it would be fine and it was at first , I got there and spoke to my boss explained how I wasn’t well but completed them all the best I could and they were very understanding and nice about it. But then later on in the evening I was in the car with my mum and I got a phone call from my boss shouting at me about the cards and fired me on the spot and didn’t even pay me for the work that I’d done.

Honestly , after I wasn’t working there anymore it gave me more time to focus on my studies which was less stressful and it allowed me to have a bit of time to relax too. It’s a pretty boring story actually but I felt like sharing it because I’m sure everyone out there has a story about their first job and I’d love to hear them because I’ve heard some pretty crazy stories in the past.
