Five Significant of Bhutanese National Dress

The Bhutanese national dress, consisting of Gho and Kira. Gho are the those dress those who used to wear by our gentlemen and Kiras are those dress who used to wear by our beautiful women. Our national dress have many significant such as Bhutanese culture, tradition, and identity. The colors, patterns that are used in designing Bhutanese dress represent region of the people and social status of people etc. Bhutanese national dress were made from local materials and designs were based on the geography of our country. Our Bhutanese national dress was introduced during the 17th century by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal. Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal introduced the Gho and Kira to create a distinct Bhutanese identity and promote unity among the diverse ethnic groups within the country.

Gho and Kira are symbols of Bhutanese culture identity. Other countries don’t have garments like our Bhutan. Since our national dress is different from other countries, it helps us to create identity from another country’s citizens.
