Here I am, excited about making it to the second week of Boot-camp. Getting here has definitely come with its own set of challenges. Before coming for Andela’s boot-camp, I had heard so many stories of how challenging and tough it was but even after all the preparations, you need to be highly committed to scale through.

I have had to imbibe some soft skills and acquire technical skills as well during the past week of boot-camp.

The soft skills sections included: having a growth mindset, building relationships, asking questions, seeking feedback, and motivation and commitment just to mention a few. I now realize the importance of these skills and how they make you become better at what you do and how you do it.

Some of the technical skills I had to learn were: git for version control, writing tests for programs hence embracing the test driven development, HTTP and web services and yes, using JavaScript for the first time.

Learning the technical skills was not easy, I had to go through many tutorials. I was committed to understanding what I was trying to learn and had to pull through sleepless nights. Now I look forward to those Eureka Moments where I finally understand something new.

Adapting to these challenges over the past week has definitely prepared me for this week.

All in all, it is exciting and motivating when you look back and see the amount of things you have been able to achieve within a short period of time. It reinforces the belief that nothing is impossible. It has definitely brought me out of my comfort zone, making me pursue excellence in delivering tasks.

There’s this saying that goes thus, “The finest steel has to go through the hottest fire”. These challenges have made me become better and I know that with more of them, I will be become the finest steel.
