I totally agree with the spirit of your story. However, I have a small objection to tis statement. It’s not particularly useful to say that ‘sometimes horrible things just happen’ which is the same blanket reaction conservatives would oppose to other kind of events. It is one thing when a family or a victim says it, but it is never a good recommendation to support or oppose any policy. One should instead patiently analyse facts and numbers and distinguished between causes, correlations and independent variables, like melatonin is with respect to many crimes. But patient and observant attitudes in politics have now become a rarity.
