What are Drones?

Drones are aircraft without humans on board that is the reason for the name unmanned aerial vehicles. This can be controlled autonomously or with a remote. Drones have two(2) communication systems (transmitter and receiver).

The usage of drones started in the 1900s with a gigantic structure and gradually evolving to foldable pieces. Aside from its features (size), drones can be used for different applications.

Application of Drones

  • Healthcare
  • Military
  • Agriculture
  • Commercial Purposes
  • Domestic
  • Physical Activities

Benefits of using a drone

  1. Altitude is an advantage
  2. Improves time management
  3. It travels to remote and distant areas that are hazardous for humans
  4. Accuracy

Drones for Physical activities

The advantage of tracking individuals with drones out-weighs the disadvantages. So, this article focuses on drones used for physical activities like cycling, running, jogging, skiing, hiking to mention but a few.

Physical activities (such as jogging, running, cycling, hiking) improves physical and mental states of a human being but these activities can lead to fatigue, dehydration, injuries, unconsciousness and strain. This can be catastrophic if the individual has no access to proper attention — medical or otherwise.

That is why some companies are coming up with ideas that will bridge the gap.

Casestudy

1. AirDog is a drone company that tracks athlete(s) during physical activities. The above image is from the company’s website.

2. Zipline is a company that is improving the well-being of the citizens of Rwanda, especially in remote and rural areas.

“Zipline drones delivers blood to hospitals in Rwanda. This project has not only saved lives but also preserve blood that is poorly stored in hospitals. More so, the technology is built from cheap and eco-friendly materials” , Keller Rinaudo (CEO Zipline)

The use of drone technology will drastically reduce the mortality rate in the society, also individual will be calm knowing there is a back-up in case of eventualities. This is a WIN for both parties.

The technology needed in a Drone

  1. UAV
  2. GPS Technology
  3. GSM Technology
  4. Ground control station
  5. Camera
  6. Computer vision
