Last week as most of you probably know(if you’re a tech fan at all) the company that builds my dream car; Tesla, held an event and this was for the unveiling of as we all knew for the semi-truck the main man Elon rolled up on stage driving one in the colour of a sort space grey dark version besides a larger silver version.

On the surface, these trucks look like the average everyday Tesla revamp then he dropped the specs. 0–60 5 secs with no payload or 0–60 in 20 with 80,000lbs payload which is cool and all but I’m not and most probably don’t intend on becoming a truck driver but this was cool nonetheless, and that was the main story of the event; It looked like it was ending the lights dimmed, and then Tesla pulled a one more thing on us and out of the back of one of the trailers attached to one of the trucks a Tesla Roadster 2.0 zoomed out.We knew Tesla Roadster 2.0 was eventually coming but didn’t think we would see it on that day.

Tesla didn’t have much of a reputation when they released the original. Roadster that was this two-door car that looked like a Lotus externally but had the electrics and mechanics of Tesla it was a weird Frankenstein hybrid car that wasn’t the most practical of cars but was still step forward regardless beyond all this it fast and what I heard — very fun to drive.

However, it did not super-charge as the Model S’s do, it did not have immense milage per-charge like their other flagships, did not sell well and was overall completely unsafe as Elon admitted himself sometime last year. Until last week the only proof of potential existence was a few Elon tweets here and there, rumours circling the web of Tesla bring it back but nothing concrete until last week and it looked better than what I could imagine.

The Roadster 2.0 is Tesla finally coming of age as this car looks like a Tesla and not knock off hybrid of other luxury motors on the market it’s an unquestionably aggressive, good-looking sports car. As the crowds cheer calm down, you can see Elon with smile ready to talk about the car, and he got down to the specs, my god the specs before I go on I have to admit I’m a spec person I like numbers, but there is not often a time when I’m left speechless by what I hear.

Spec Sheet of The Roadster 2.0

0–60mph in 1.9s.
0–100 in 4.2s.
A top speed of, quote “Over 250mph.”
200khwz battery pack.
Three motors (2 for the back, 1 for the front)
621-mile range per charge.

With a spec sheet like that, it doesn’t sound street legal these specs are that of a hyper-car territory. It’s also an insanely fast and affordable sports car with four seats. For a car to go under to two-second barrier to reach 0–60mph but still be a production car is phenomenal and hasn’t been done anyone yet although they are close to it with a time like 2.4, most are around 2.7. I’m not sure how the competition will react, but it will be entertaining to watch as the Tesla Roadster 2.0 will have a price tag of $200k meanwhile other cars in this territory of specs share a price of $800k and above.

One last thing though this car will be coming out in 2020 (hopefully I can afford it by then) unveiling now is Tesla making a statement to the industry telling everyone to catch up, however, with specs of an upper high-end car but the price of a lower high-end car it will be a tough task.
