Harness the power of selected discipline.

I was reading the book “ The One Thing” and I came across the chapter “ A disciplined lie”. Gary Keller and Jay Papasan teaches us that “Discipline is a lie”. After reading the chapter, I am in full agreement with the authors that trying to be self disciplined in life can be a blunder.

The truth is we don’t need any more discipline than we already have. We just need to direct and manage it a little better. Contrary to what most people believe success is not a marathon of disciplined action. Success is actually a short race — a spirit fueled by discipline just long enough for habit to kick in and take over.

Before I go further, we will have to consider the two facts :

  1. It’s our habits that defines our destiny.
  2. Habits can be build one by one.

So when you we see people who look like “disciplined” people, what you’re really seeing is people who have trained a handful of habits into their lives.

The thought of having every behavior molded and maintained by training seems frighteningly impossible on one hand and utterly boring on the other. Most people ultimately reach this conclusion but, seeing no alternative, redouble their efforts at the impossible or quietly quit. Frustration shows up and resignation eventually sets in.

Researches have found that it actually takes an of 66 days to form a habit. Find out what habit should you develop to become successful in the area that you want to.Stick with the discipline for long enough for it to become a routine. Once a habit is solidly established, you can either build on that habit or, if appropriate, build another one. And it is always recommended to build one habit at a time.

So what we actually need is selected discipline. Harness the power of selected disciple to build the right habit, and extra ordinary results will find you.

You can become successful with less discipline than you think, for one simple reason: success is about doing the right thing, not about doing everything right.
