My Plans So Far

Since high school junior year, my mom had given me suggestions for careers and she mentioned one that really got me interested in and I decided to look into it more.

Dermatology. It’s the study of the skin, and it got me interested because there’s so much we don’t know about our bodies and it’s always changing, new mutations and things, that I felt that this was a career I could go for. And what I liked about it, is that you don’t necessarily have to be the doctor, you can work in the lab, and work on medicine or vaccines.

As I thought about this, I became more sure that it’s what I wanted to do, but there’s still some doubt in my mind about it, just because there’s so many things out there to do. Since after researching more about dermatology, I found a career that seemed really interesting and would like to do, epidemiology. Which is the branch of medicine that deals with the incidence, distribution, and possible control of diseases and other factors relating to health. So, I’m torn over which seems like a good fit. Or if any of the two will be what I do at all.

Currently I’m aiming for a chemistry major, and I just decided (like a few days ago) that I want my minor to be in Spanish instead of French and I also want to minor in Chicano and Latino studies. But as we go on, I think I’ll figure out for sure what I want to do.
