I’m a huge Gene Wilder fan, and yet I respect his decision to walk away from Hollywood. As an author, I have author friends who are sick of our industry too and want to quit, but artists are not supposed to move on. We are supposed to be writers or actors or singers forever. It’s supposed to be “who we are” and not “what we do.” That’s not an expectation we put on other professions. I think it’s great that he did other things, like writing books, that brought him pleasure. Though I missed him in the movies, I admire his integrity.
