Exciting updates from the past few months

Over the past few months, there have been many important developments at Terminal. While we have been busy expanding our Canadian campuses and working with exciting new partners, our focus on our mission has not strayed.

We believe that talent is global, while many professional opportunities remain geographically unobtainable. We set out to build Terminal in order to push the world forward by bringing compelling technology jobs to the best global talent — wherever that may be. We provide services and infrastructure in a complete solution to help our partners scale their teams while creating meaningful professional opportunities throughout the world.

We believe that the world will be better off with more thoughtful innovation that can solve society’s most challenging problems. The nexus of innovation is a thriving technology ecosystem, including a network of people, capital, talent, and experience that culminate in extraordinary output. At Terminal, we will continue to focus on delivering our members high-quality startup experiences and equity in these opportunities, while ensuring that talent can remain inside the local ecosystem to accelerate the innovation flywheel.

In order to fulfill our mission, we’ve made recent investments in the communities we serve, our members, our team, and our business in order to set-up the next phase of our growth. We’re taking a moment to share some of these developments.

Terminal Expands New Campus In Waterloo Region
On May 4th, we officially cut the ribbon on our new Waterloo Region campus in downtown Kitchener! We hosted a grand opening event that brought together an amazing group of technologists, community leaders, and local friends and family to celebrate our commitment and investment in the region. We were pleased to welcome familiar faces and meet many new friends to share in what has been a two year journey for us in KW.

This is our third office in Waterloo Region, having grown from humble beginnings in the Tannery. We have taken on 20,000 square feet in Kitchener’s first skyscraper, with options to expand even further. This long-term lease is latest chapter of our growth and a sign of our confidence in the people, community, and future potential of the region. We even had the help of Darth Vader and friendly Stormtroopers to commemorate the event, which just so happened to land on Star Wars Day. We couldn’t help ourselves — we’re huge Star Wars fans! May the 4th be with you, and it will always be with the members and team of Terminal KW!

New Educational Programming And Events For Our Members
We believe in a culture of ongoing learning and growth. That goes for us a business, as a team, and most importantly for the members of Terminal. Besides co-locating our partner teams in our campuses, which provides the opportunity for organic knowledge sharing, we have launched a series of talks from some of the most sought-after experts in the field of technology, investing, engineering, and leadership.

We call our series, Terminal Tech Talks, and we will continue to ramp these events across our markets based on the overwhelmingly positive response. If you would like to be considered as a speaker or recommend someone for this series, please contact Nabil Fahel, our director of partnerships at nabil@terminal.io.

We believe this type of programming provides our members an opportunity to step away from the day-to-day, learn new perspectives, and grow as an individual and as a member of a broader team. Here is a sample from our recent talk with the legendary University of Waterloo professor, Founder and Director of the Problem Lab, Larry Smith. We hosted this talk as one of the last events in our old office and welcomed in 150 members and guests from the community to take part in the conversation. We hope you enjoy it and hope you can join us for a future Tech Talk. Stay tuned!

In addition to the tech talk programming, we’ve been an active in hosting and participating in many impactul community events. We believe that part of being an additive participant in the community is to open our doors to worthy events and help other organizations gather, grow, and learn.

Over the past few months, we hosted the official International Women’s Day event, SOFAR Sounds Concerts with artists like Oscar-Winning composers, Sitar Fusion, local bands like The Bandicoots, and Aaron Ridge. We are also investing our time and energy into Girls Geek Dinners, Ladies Learning Code, arts festivals, and events centered around diversity and inclusion.

Now that we’re in our new campus, we plan to increase the amount of events that we host as we embody a community center for arts, sciences, and technology organizations in the downtown area. If you are interested in hosting an event at Terminal, our team is ready to help! Please reach out to Nabil Fahel, our director of partnerships at nabil@terminal.io.

The Best Investors To Fuel Our Growth
We are proud to announce our recent round of investment from some of the best investors in the world. Funding announcements alone are no reason to celebrate or evidence of success. However, it provides us confirmation in our already strong convictions as well as the necessary capital to expand globally while investing more across all our communities. Above all, we take our stewardship of our partners, members, and communities very seriously, and we now have increased means to deliver on our mission to enrich technology ecosystems around the world. We are grateful and humbled by this opportunity.

We are pleased to welcome Lightspeed Venture Partners, Thiel Capital, Kleiner Perkins Caufield and Byers, Jerry Yang, Craft Ventures (David Sacks’ new firm), Atomic, and WTI to the Terminal family for our Series A financing round.

Welcoming Clay Kellogg As CEO of Terminal
As we look to the future, it’s clear we have a rare opportunity and that our path to reaching our potential will not be easy. To navigate these waters, we need to always be thinking about how we grow the Terminal team to supplement the already strong foundation we have in place. After working with us for several months as a close advisor, we are pleased to announce that Clay Kellogg has agreed to join us as Chief Executive Officer of Terminal. As our leader, Clay will guide us through our next phase of growth and ensure we exceed our client and member expectations while helping us scale to new markets across the world.

We are thrilled to have Clay take on this role, bringing his wealth of experience as a former executive at AdMob (sold to Google for $750m), Google, Chartboost, and most recently as CRO of Hired, where he scaled the sales and talent organization to over 120 employees across multiple markets during his tenure. We believe Clay not only has the expertise and skills to lead our team, but more importantly he shares in our core values and carries a deep passion for our mission.

Thank You For Supporting Us On Our Journey
Finally, we want to take a moment and thank all of our members, partners, friends, family, and community leadership who have helped and guided our journey thus far. We know we are still in the dawning of our mission to globalize the future of work, but with the help and consideration of this amazing network, we are confident that our members, our communities, and our partners will all be prosperous in our endeavor.

Thank you,
Dylan Serota, Co-Founder
