To all Christians who are upset over the Supreme Court ruling, I understand. You feel that somehow America has thrown its moral standards to the wind. I get that. Although I do not share in your outrage, I understand your sentiment. For many of you, you love LGBT persons and wish the best for them. Out of concern for their souls, you want them to change, as our Bible decries their sexual orientation (at least how we have interpreted it). But what about their civil rights? As humans, their are certain inalienable rights that one has just by virtue of being human: the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. My Jesus never came to deny anyone civil rights: he came to inform us of a new heaven and a new earth. So, on this earth, we must walk together and demand liberty and justice for all, not just for those who profess our God. Jesus told us that His kingdom was not of this world, and yet we become so flummoxed and disheveled every time we hear “gay”. To my LGBT brothers and sisters, i love you and I hope you love me. To my fellow Christians, I love you and I hope you love me. I know I’ve lost some of you as friends today and I’ll miss you. But, it is with loving kindness that God will compel all men to his bosom. I choose to walk in love. That walk is different for every person. For some, their love walk means pontificating their beliefs ad nauseam in hopes of affecting change. For others, it is walking among people, getting and understanding of them, and finding commonality. I am unapologetically #TeamJesus and in my warped theological purview, I believe that Jesus would hold the hand of my LGBT family and sit them at His table.
