I respect but disagree with your outlook on The Get Down. The series is about a group of friends growing up in the era that birthed hip hop. It’s not possible to do a series that completely depicts the beginning of hip hop due to the number of contributors and moving parts. I think the series does a great job of focusing on the conditions that created hip hop such as slum lord housing conditions, the lack of authenticity in disco and limited resources of self expression.
