While I appreciate the idea of self discipline of that fasting can bring — Fasting is essentially a Ketogenic diet. And it is absolutely the way to go most of Americas health issues would be reduced if people would eat fewer carbs and allow their body to use FAT as fuel.
Dr. Ron Rosedale wrote his book back in 2005 that helps describe this process and by eating higher fat, moderate protein and low to no carb you will gain the health benefits as described above in the article. The difference is you do not have to fast to get the benefits. Eat Fat.

Sure fasting is fine. But why not live in a ketogenic state all the time and enjoy food.
