Fort Edmonton Park has been an attraction in our city for a long time that can be enjoyed by everyone of all ages. It was announced this week that the Park plans to add a $150 million expansion to add new features and update existing features of the park. Fort Edmontons main goal is to engage the visitors of the park for a longer period of time and also introduce visitors to new attractions and themes including a grandstand, events field, and a realistic Indigenous Peoples Experience. Of the total $150 million, $42 million will be allocated to the Indigenous Peoples Experience. CEO of Fort Edmonton Park has announced a partnership with the Confederation of Treaty 6 First Nations and the Metis Nation of Alberta in order to ensure accuracy to the new facility. The plans are to build an indoor facility that will feel as though it is inside of a mountain or hill where visitors can enjoy such experiences as an outdoor amphitheatre that is designated for storytelling and villages built around a man-made pond. Similar to the existing areas of the park, visitors will be able to learn a lot of activities that are true for this period such as building a canoe and learn about medicinal flowers.nbsp; In addition this this addition, the park plans to spend $70 million to upgrade the underground facilities that were first put in back in the 1960s as well as another $80 million to be allocated to the development of new attractions. Some of these proposed new attractions will include moving the admissions office and gift shop away from the train station in order to be able to reclaim the train station as a way to properly explain and demonstrate the railway history of Alberta. Fort Edmonton plans to also include a grandstand events area where visitors will be able to enjoy era-themed events such as tick horse riding and a 1920s themed circus. Other activities that are proposed for Fort Edmonton include a cookhouse tent, a 200-seat live entertainment theatre, a hay bale maze, rides and a shooting gallery. There are also plans to expand the existing Selkirk Hotel in order to accommodate another 22 guest rooms and a 250 person ballroom. The expansion to Fort Edmonton Park is still in the planning phases and has already been able to raise $33.5 million dollar grant from the Province of Alberta. The remaining funds are planned to come from both the federal government and by raising funds by the public. Officials at Fort Edmonton Park are hoping that the federal government will match the contribution from the province at $33.5 million and hopes to raise another $10 million from the public. Plans for the launch of the new and improved Fort Edmonton Park are set to roll out in 2020.nbsp; The Terry Paranych Team would love to hear what your thoughts are on the new plans for Fort Edmonton Park, leave a comment below Get A Free Home Evaluation
