If someone found a little creepy in Mr. Wilder’s performances it was because that’s a little bit of who all of us are, along with some needy and neurosis. He showed the parts that belong to everyone who wanted to love and be loved, who cared about others enough to care about what they thought of him… but maybe just a little too much.Along with the human frailties though, mostly what came out was genuine human decency, someone who knew why other people were unhappy and hoped could make that go away if only for about 2 hours.
