How to Take Time to Breathe; A Moment for Having

Minnesota Countryside

In our modern world of busy hustle and bustle, constant excessiveness, mental overload — a time of stress, no time for anything at all — we must take time for ourselves, and we must take this time, a moment of reflection, to dwell on what we do — and don’t have, and how it shapes us as the individuals we are. We must take a moment to breathe.

As our new semester begins to grow into its adulthood, and comes to its inevitable head, we must take advantage of what we have in peace, quiet and clime. The outside world is nice — ah, nature, let’s get out and enjoy it. The weather is tepid, welcome, inviting, and not the decider in how we choose our daily fashion or feel. Flora and fauna, alive and thriving. A bee buzzes. We must revel in it.

Our time here is fleeting, as it is for the seasons. And phenology on the human mind and body, powerful. Each day something changes, something anew, for better or worse. The nights become colder. The evenings darker. Our ground hardens. The mornings we become as old diesel trucks, cumbersome to start in the cold. Though we must turn over. We must prevail. We must find our road.

The only way to prevail, progress — move forward, and come out ahead with our equilibrium is by taking time for ourselves, taking a warm breath on a shaded pathway with ourselves. Getting to know the “I” better. A moment to recharge. A moment to find out who we are in this fast spinning world, in fleeting fall. In and out; inhale and exhale; be present and away; be found in your solace, for that moment is necessary. For you. For I. Breathe.
