I feel like a living anachornism. My time has passed. That is to say the world has moved on and what was once cool (do people still use that word?) is not necessarily so now.

And I am ok with that. It was a big shock to discover my world had changed. A couple of years ago, I was out of state and trying to deliver water pipe to a job site. My company cell phone had no service and I could not find a pay phone. How the hell could I do my job without communication?

I went to a convince store. Where once had hung an portal to the rest of the world, now there was only faded paint and a patched over whole on the wall.

I worked a store that had three pay phones. On Friday nights all three had people lined up to use them.

“Please deposit 25 cents for the next 5 minutes”

There are some who will never hear these words spoken in that annoying electronic voice. Although the voice on my GPS comes close. (I have the option of voice gender, accent, and language how weird is that?)

But morals are as true now as they have always been. A person’s right to live free is as true now as it has always been. Just because some law was established does not mean that truth is superseded.

Remember our own “Jim Crow” laws. Which said that some folks were less than others. It was bullshit then as it is now.

And in that way, I do not feel like an anachronism. I may never understand my cell phone, but I do know the value of being in touch with those I love.
