No. No. No. There is nothing wrong with a candidate getting less than 50% of the vote and still winning. Ranked choice could potentially allow a candidate that loses by several percentage points to then win, which would not be a good thing. The only decent method of whittling away multiple candidates (if such a thing is actually a bad thing) is a run-off system. And not one where the run-off is months away. France’s run-off was two weeks later. This gives candidates (and the money feeding them) less time to throw money at the race and let’s the people choose who they really feel is best.
