Almost is as close as we’ll get, and I tend to agree. Even good estimations are at 80% on the continuum, and that last 20% is the big variance of a project.

One value I do see is an estimations ability to inform a non-technical stakeholder of the large ask of a large but not seemingly large task. I’m talking ab0ut those side features that seem ‘easy’ but are huge no matter what way you slice them.

Using estimations as a signal gets the word out that they may not be worth pursuing. So while estimations do very little for the large unknowns, they can hedge off wasteful spending on the large knowns.
