I am pretty obsessed with this topic, almost to the point that I am likely to scare off other diners with my evaluation of every menu item. A favorite of mine is the sandwich vs. platter choice in many restaurants. The platter is typically the sandwich contents+ rice, another side if you’re lucky. In the cases where it’s only rice, that ends up being 40% of the cost. A great way for the restaurant to up the margin.

Granted, I love rice, so it’s always a tough decision.
