Passport Renewal Form

A passport is a necessary document that has to be kept safe and ready, especially when you travel overseas. This is an official document issued by the government. It permits you to travel outside of the country without difficulty.

Surely holding on to your U.S. passport for a decade, and when it is full of visas and stamps that you always wanted, can be sufficient to make you happy. But what if it’s on the verge of expiring? It means it’s time to get your passport renewed.

The passport renewal process comes with a few concerns. Such as “Do you need to renew your passport?”, “How do you fill out the forms to renew expired passport in San Antonio?”

How Much Time Do You Have?

Now that you’ve checked the expiration dates and noticed that your passport book is full, what’s next?

You should check how much time you have left before your next international trip. How long you have to renew your passport will determine which route you choose. Although it might be quicker to have a passport renewal application done in person, there is no guarantee that you will live near a regional passport agency. While sending a renewal application via mail can reduce the cost slightly, waiting for a package to arrive on time can cause disruptions in travel plans. Sometimes, expedited processing for your passport renewal might be the best choice.

Complete Your Passport Renewal Application

Form DS-82 will be required from the Department of State for passport renewals. It is necessary that your passport is in perfect condition and has not been altered since it was issued within the last 15 years.

The DS-82 cannot be used to renew children’s passports that are valid for five years. The holder of a child’s passport has “aged out”, i.e., if the holder has reached 16 years of age, they need to present their application at a regional passport agency with form DS-11.

The DS-82 form is very simple. Six pages are available on the Department of State website. Four of these pages are instructions. These pages do not have to be submitted with the application. The other two must be mailed.

Complete the form with your information, including your address and name. Your passport renewal application must include the necessary legal documentation if you have recently been married, divorced, or changed your name. It’s a good idea if you have immediate travel plans to send along your application.

Filling Out Other Necessary Forms

Some passport renewal applications require that you provide proof of no back taxes or child support to the IRS. If these records reach the federal government before you apply, your passport renewal could be delayed or rejected.

Other than that, applicants need to include a $110 check or money order made out to the Department of State, with a passport-sized photograph and an expired US passport.

How To Submit Your Passport Renewal Form

The U.S. Postal Service accepts passport renewal applications and also provides the option to mail the forms yourself. The address you choose will depend on where you live and whether you need expedited service. Applications from Canada can even be accepted. They only need to be mailed to the Philadelphia appropriate office. Texas Passport Center can expedite your passport renewal application by mail or in person at any U.S. office. Texas Passport Center is the best place to go if you don’t want to wait or need to be sure your passport will arrive before you travel.

Passport Renewal Is Completed

Don’t forget to do some housekeeping before traveling when you have your updated passport book in hand. The information page will require you to sign your name and your address in pencil. Check any reservations you may have to ensure that your passport number and expiration date match.

You may still have valid visa stamps on your expired passport when you renew an existing passport. The U.S. Department of State can not move these valid visas into your new passport, but consulates and embassies for the relevant countries can. If you are planning on traveling and need to renew your expired passport in San Antonio, you should wait until you have the new document before applying for visas.
