At PitchFestNW, we pride ourselves on the diversity of our startups — but it’s also valuable to consider which categories are trending each year. Here’s a quick look at our 2017 roster, and who made the biggest impact in category.

With over 15% of our applicants, health tech was our most popular vertical. In the same way technology has transformed the rest of our lives, it’s transforming how we care for ourselves as well. Here’s the companies who made the cut and will be competing on stage.

  1. Ate: Hailing originally from Portland AND Budapest, this Hungarian startup is building a new type of digital food journal that’s meant to help you develop better eating habits- and more importantly- maintain them. Integrating peer and pro support, this app focuses on ease of use and mindful eating.
  2. Jupiter Devices: Jupiter Devices is on a mission to eliminate finger pricks from glucose monitoring for management of diabetes. The technology utilizes Radio Frequency (RF) spread spectrum stimulus and molecular analysis to do an identification and measurement of glucose.
  3. Recentia Health: Recentia Health helps physicians secure their professional and financial independence. By visualizing important clinical information, this support and medical records tool saves physicians time and money.
  4. Madorra: Madorra is developing the first non-hormonal, non-invasive medical device to treat vaginal dryness and atrophy. Madorra’s simple, easy-to-use device will empower the millions of breast cancer survivors and post-menopausal women suffering from vaginal dryness to improve their sexual health and return to wellness.
  5. Upstream Research: Upstream Research is an environmental health company that empowers individuals and organizations with reports on environmental hazards and disease risks for a given location in seconds.
  6. CareWheels Corporation: From banking services to social networks and home-based monitoring and support services, CareWheels develops innovative tools that support interdependent living to meet the rising needs of our growing population of elders who are aging-in-place by choice or necessity.
  7. Peer Health: Peer Health is a website & mobile app that enables patients with chronic health conditions to connect and collaborate with others just like themselves using our patient matching engine.
  8. Sightbox: Sightbox is a vision plan for people who wear contact lenses. Each membership includes an annual eye exam, contact lens fitting, and years supply of contacts.
  9. Rooted Recovery: Their mission is to reinvent how patients access support by uprooting the barriers that keep people sick. Through our in-person support, teletherapy services and interactive mobile app, we empower patients to take hold of their recovery by giving them the tools and support they need anytime, anywhere.
  10. Medifies: Medifies solves the Hospital waiting room problem. The company’s SaaS platforms allows healthcare providers to own Provider/Family communication.
