Why Top Writers Are Skipping Medium’s Friends Program: A Must-Read Revelation
You might be wondering what Eve Arnold could possibly have in common with Tim Denning, besides both being powerhouse writers known for their motivational pieces on Medium. At first glance, their paths seem worlds apart. Yet, here’s the twist that ties their stories together in an unexpected way: despite their success, both have chosen not to become Friends of Medium. This decision opens up a fascinating discussion about engagement and the Medium community.
I was intrigued when I noticed this and then did some more research and discovered the majority of the top writers on Medium actually never opted to sign up for the Friends of Medium program. Is this a silent form of protest or are they too removed from the day to day community to make it worthwhile? It opened up a lot of questions for me.
How could 2 of the most successful writers on Medium not find it worthwhile to sign up for the Friends program? I immediately signed up when it was released and now I’m filled with doubt. Did I make the wrong decision? Is it worthwhile to pay the extra $10 a month?
This piece is in no way trying to say anything bad or disparaging about either creator. I have tremendous respect for both and they have both have played a role in shaping my thoughts and writing on Medium.
Their success speaks for itself and it is truly incredible what both have accomplished. This makes it all the more interesting to me.
I routinely try to spot the trends of the top creators and see if it is something I can learn from and implement into my own journey.
This however I feel like may be where I just am not in the same league as them so I may not benefit or see the reason behind their decisions.
