I wrote this article back in February, roughly a 1,000 years ago in Trump Presidency time. The point of that piece was that everyone needs to keep their heads. Turning an issue this (potentially) grave into a partisan food fight of speculation and conspiracy theories is the last thing we need.

If this Russia stuff leads back to Trump — if he was in on it — we may soon face the gravest Constitutional crisis in modern history. But, we’re not there yet. If that time comes, people like you (a progressive, I presume) and me (a conservative) are going to have to work together through what will almost certainly be among the most trying and painful challenges our Republic has faced in the modern era.

Careless hyperbole and unhinged speculation only dig the partisan gulf deeper. The facts will be in soon enough. And when they are, we may need all the goodwill we can muster.
