The Rise of The Pitch, the Decline of the Pitch
M.G. Siegler

I’m 36 and have 3 young kids all just beginning to participate in youth sports. I have many friends with kids who are the same age. Many of us do not want our kids to play football. However, that’s far from a universal sentiment. I was at a party last weekend and a dad was talking about his sons’ first flag football games. I think it may take one more generation before football dies the death you’re predicting. Lots of people in my generation played football throughout their youth and are “fine.” So I think many/most are still going to let their kids play. And football remains the most popular sport on TV and attendance (especially college). I think that needs to start changing before soccer can take over as the #1 sport.
