How I built Openflock…

Openflock is a product where open source fanatics can promote their Open source projects to get their issues resolved. Openflock also has something called Openflock Hall of Fame where some of the creative open source projects are honored. Openflock also trended on GitHub. Yayy! :D

While I was new to GitHub I wrote a simple Python script which calls a person when his/her website is down. I wrote it just for fun :D

Couple of days later I got mails from people saying that the script was really cool and they were actually using it. I felt happy about it but something in me was trying to know about how these people knew about the script. Later I got to know that someone actually shared it on Reddit.

Now the antenna of my brain started thinking about an something. A seperate platform where people can ask for help about their open source project. I started posing questions to myself..

  • What is the best way to ask people to look at and contribute to my project?
  • How do I make sure that my project reaches more and more people?
  • Is there a place where creativity is honored?

I had answers to these questions. But I wasn’t satisfied with them. I then thought why not build something that would help potential open source contributors to promote their projects and get their issues quickly resolved ?

Thus the idea of Openflock emerged!

Building Openflock was fun. Really!

I learnt lots of things. I did mistakes. I learned from then. I got to know some of the best practices in building stuff.

I had an adrenaline rush when I saw some really amazing projects getting promoted on Openflock. Received around 10 to 15 mails from people appreciating Openflock.

If you’re an open source fanatic, have a look at Openflock .

You can find the code of Openflock here.

That’s all folks :D
