There’s a fine line between smart and “thinks it’s smarter than you.” Some languages for instance consider it a type error if you don’t wrap every function that can throw in try/catch all the way up the call stack.

Java infuriates me when it requires a try/catch around calls for things its spec says are required. For example, UTF-8 must be supported. So why must I try/catch for UnsupportedEncodingException when the encoding is UTF-8?
