Obviously in a market like Detroit you can’t afford too much bad luck. Drummond not improving on being the worst FT shooter ever (literally I think) hurts a lot. So does him not really figuring out how to truly be a rim protector. Reggie was great to get in the trade for pretty much nothing, but 6 years in at age 26 it’s pretty safe to say he’ll never be a top 10 PG.
I said he has generally made smart trades, but horrible signings. You can talks yourself into overpaying a role player, maybe 2. They have Leuer, Boban, Ish Smith, Galloway all being paid between 7–10 million on average. That’s basically 4 9th men…you have to tell yourself to keep your powder dry for another time.
Great coach, has done well for himself in trades, horrible at free agency. His draft is spotty, but whose isn’t, you can’t win them all.
